Logline:
Love hangs in the balance
Background:
Short graduation film for the Bray Institute of Further Education, to be shot in February 2011
Synopsis:
The story is centred around a couple in their late teens. We are firstly introduced to the boy's character. He sits at home, disconnected from the people around him. He makes his way to a friend's house party where he meets up with his girlfriend. There is a disturbance created by another boy there. They leave the party and he accompanies his upset girlfriend to a taxi rank. She then makes her way home to her grandmother who suffers from Alzheimer's disease, who is also disconnected from her loved ones.
The main theme of the film is the idea that there is a balance in life that exists because of the way positive and negative forces work against each other. The forces' opposition bring about chaos which in turn brings about progression and harmony. Throughout the first third of the film all characters will be wearing white or light coloured clothes, in the third segment they will be wearing dark or black clothes emphasized by the fact the story moves into night time, and the party scene in the middle will act as a counterpoint where white meets black. Another recurring theme to the film is the idea that we are at once both connected and disconnected from one another.
