Been a while, my apologies! It's been hectic this last few weeks. I made a start on the edit eventually. My aim was to get a cut finished for Hatchfest in the states. The film had been invited along some time ago, and I assumed it would be finished in plenty of time. But of course, that didn't happen.
I had planned to cut the film all through August. But many of the filmmakers were late sending in the clips and I eventually made a start on the edit in the first week of September, with the screening in October! This week - today in fact!
I burned the mid-night oil, 18 hour days, some longer, an all-day all-nighter at the end! I managed to get a screenable version done. It came in at 85 minutes and will screen today at Hatchfest in Montana USA. Phew!
This isn't a premiere, it's more of a special preview screening. The final cut has yet to come. I'll start work on that next week. I have about 10 more clips to drop in, some more music and some fat to trim. I'd like to get it down to 80mins, I think that's a good length for it.
I'm really happy with how the film has turned out, and the vibe of the piece. I wasn't sure what I would get or even how I would put it together. But there's nothing like a deadline and an intense short period of time to get you thinking and figuring!
I was worried about visual fatigue, but it doesn't seem to be a problem. The music helps for sure! But I think what comes across is the idea that all these moments are happening at once around the world, you get to see how different and at last similar we are. There is also the curiosity factor, the fact that you don't know what's coming next, every new clip that appears is a surprise. And as one friend said, it's almost hypnotic.
Hopefully I will be able to announce plans for the premiere soon. I'd like for that to happen in November... might be December. But this year any way. More soon.
