Hi,
Just screened my second short film "Ordinary man" last saturday night in Kelly's in Carbury, to a positive reaction.
It is a self funded 12min short, with a cast of 15 including extras and a crew of 7. Shot over three days on location in Derrinturn bog, in Kildare. We shot it on a Sony EX1 with Daniel Balteanu as a DOP and I am extremely happy with the end result of the quality of the picture.
The story is set in the late 1950s midlands, about two feuding brothers. Jack is the back bone of the land. Worked all his life and set in his ways, the other younger brother is the complete opposite. A waste of space! When the younger brother decides enough is enough, he plans to leave for good, but Jack has no intension of letting him go that easy.
I learned a hell of alot working on this. My two main points are, which everyone knows already. Is Never Ever thrust the Irish weather, Especially when it takes 15mins walk across the bog to get into the location for your first shot, you look out side, and there is a hurricane going by! your schedule gets tossed out the window. But it all came good in the end.
Second, is dont tell to many local people the complete details of your story, especially when your looking for a location. Chances are, a similar story might have taken place in real life before!?!
I plan to put this into as many festivals as possible, both a home and abroad. If anyone gets a chance to see it, I would love to hear any feed back.
Cheers
