Got inspiration for this one from watching 'Life After People'.
It could make for a great movie - take the basic concept of 28 Weeks / Days Later and just go completely High Concept with it. Its such a good brand now with a loyal following that it could very well justify the necessary budget.
The setting is Southern England, circa 2280 A.D.
Soon after the events of '28 Weeks Later', there is a massive global
outbreak of the virus that completely destroys any sense of law and
order worldwide. Infection, wars and famine ensue (we're talking
biblical here). 90% of the worlds population are wiped out in the years that follow. The virus seemingly burns itself out.
So we get to create the world from Life After People (but with some
people in it obviously - this is not Disney).
That in itself would be a joy. What would life be like? How would the
natural world recover? What would these people actually know about their past?
The trick is not to go down the Mad Max or Waterworld road. Build a
sophisticated society. A real way of life that uses whatever knowledge
skills and resources it inherits and makes them their own. These people are genuinely prospering.
Our story follows one particular community who have already been moving in and out of London from their base in the South. A son decides to follow his father on one of these expeditions.
But something is lurking in the depths.
This thing could also be loaded with contemporary themes of humanity's relationship with nature and the earth in general.
The Teaser: Im thinking of a mix between the teaser for 'The Day After Tomorrow' (the early apocalyptic bits mixed with wars, famines, zombies, you get the picture)and the original The Dark Knight Teaser (dialogue heavy piece from the people that have survived and are moving into London). The Boom! (tbc).
(Thanks to these guys for the moody photo and these guys for the greener one - its New York but you get the idea. It'll be alot greener in my version - think Angkor Wat).
PS - any editors out there looking for a portfolio piece?
