Global Collaborative Filmmaking - I LOVE IT!!
Following the massive success of Frank Kelly's '140' project - which incidentally received its Irish premiere recently - Crewger are delighted to point you in the direction of another facinating project that is slowly building momentum on the wide wide world of the interweb.
"One Day On Earth" is the documentary new media project about the amazing diversity, conflict, tragedy, and triumph that occurs in one 24-hour period on this planet".
Projects such as this are unique because they allow the filmmakers (and the audience) to actually FEEL as though all the worlds peoples are one tribe, that we are all the same, that we are all reliant on each other, that we share a beautiful (and often delicate) planet together and that our destiny's have always been, and will always be, inextricably intertwined.
No other project or event on earth can make us feel as such. Even the World Cup Final - though it brings majority of the worlds population together for a brief moment in time - is still a case of who beat who and how, 'at the end of the day'.
Why are these ideas important? Because they are the truth. Because - if you take time to read the news papers - we aint doing so good, specifically because these truths are being ignored.
So kudos to Jennifer Clark and the team from On Day on Earth. I recently received an email from them asking for Irish filmmakers to get involved.
'Hi there,
Right now we're looking for individuals in Ireland to participate in this world wide project and after looking at Crewger I was hoping you could help us spread the word and showcase the beauty and culture of the country. The project is called "One Day On Earth" and it's about the diversity, conflict, tragedy and triumph that can occur in one 24-hour period on the whole planet. It is a multi-platform participatory media project, with a flagship 120-minute documentary to be released theatrically. We are currently looking for film makers and or film crews in every country of the world. We hope you are interested in joining us on our mission! Please feel free to check out the trailer to get a better idea: http://onedayonearth.org/odoe_vid.php
By participating we would ask you to film as much footage as possible on the date 10-10-2010 with the goal of creating a document for us to better understand the world. Thousands of filmmakers worldwide will be participating.
Jennifer'
They will be launching a fully interactive site in the New Year, so you can expect great things from that. It could well become the model for future such projects.
