The Shed Dublin

Description

THE SHED is a multi-functional installation piece in itself, as well as a large multi-functional space suitable for making and presenting multi-disciplinary work. It aims to stimulate a new and proactive way of connection between different cultural groups and local audiences, providing space for meeting, debate and incubation in the field of culture and art. It specifically promotes internationality and diversity as fundamental principles relating to the creative City. THE SHED is run by selected/eclectic External Curators that research and showcase cultural experiments, when not curated directly by The Shed’s promoter McBett. The principle is that Culture is like bread, something to be eaten daily by everyone. THE SHED supports little ideas and helps them grow regardless of previous experience , with no distinction between community and cultural contributions. THE SHED is a source of inspiration for audiences and artists. Its central location guarantees easy access and offers a large, adaptable and unique space to those with less facilities. THE SHED is not meant to be used but to be shared.

The Shed Dublin - 16th OCTOBER 2009 @THE SHED – EARTHQUACK

8a Henrietta Lane (rear of King's Inn pub in Henrietta street) Dublin 1 (top Capel Street) Suggested Donations: 8,00 Euro @THESHED DOORS @ 9:00 pm till late EARTHQUACK by DIARMUID MACDIARMADA www.myspace.com/diarmuidmcdiarmada Presents: LIVE MUSIC BRIAN CONNIFFE & SUZANNE WALSH www.myspace.com/brianandsu UNITED BIBLE STUDIES http://www.myspace.com/unitedbiblestudies BLOODYENDS www.myspace.com/bloodyends ZORILLA http://www.myspace.com/zorillamusic BOOKING COMPULSORY: texts: 0877954727 email: theshed-crew@googlegroups.com Write the full name of each booking person, one tel number for the groups and eventually an email address for the list. I will only reply if the event has been booked out. All events are meant as collaborative, interactive and on site. THEY ARE ALL VIDEO/PHOTO/SOUND RECORDED. INFO: EARTHQUACK’s tagline is “Failure is an option”. A number of acts who are already experimental/improvisional/challenging are already lined up for it , but I think it would be especially interesting to have more straight ahead artists trying out their wackiestideas…let me know. www.myspace.com/diarmuidmcdiarmada www.gopparecords.com UNITED BIBLE STUDIES A floating collective whose members assemble from near and far to explore improvised and composed musical moments that range from contemplation to neo-folk to frantic pot-walloping to doom-laden growling. http://www.myspace.com/unitedbiblestudies ZORILLA The ever-mutating Earthquack houseband return with new sounds. Zorilla began life with Marko and Rosso writing tricksy, surprising and somewhat dramatic instrumentals in the bleak seclusion of the Tyrolean alps. They thought their haunted, venomous offerings might blend with the unique, raw-soul vocal tones of Kill-him Keelin, what with her penchant for inducing shock-imbued hysteria. Add the un-macho swagger of Gillo on guitar and lastly the studio savvy, drum abuse and frequent indigestion of Diarmo and there you go - Zorilla! http://www.myspace.com/zorillamusic BRIAN CONNIFFE Brian is a longtime friend of the club and the duo played a wonderful set at a recent Shed event so we had to have them. www.myspace.com/brianandsu BLOODYENDS are a group of artists who came together over a project which considered the idea of fruition, finitude. They ventured to finish an exhibition with the reincarnation of a rough New Wave sound from late 70´s New York rerouted through 60's sci-fi B-movie type sound tracks. But the finish became a start and the start is still forming..... Bloodyends have one foot in the murky world of analogue, the other jerks with digital. There is a body of music to be laid out. A short, sharp pointless existence. Nina plays bass, recycled keyboards and skip paraphernalia. Gillian drives the drums. Paul conjures sounds and vids and cajoles lead bass to give up the tunes. Mark sings, writes words and casts beautiful, beautiful shadows. our technology and architecture produce us differently. we are no longer the same. we are fractured. we are frantic. we are closed. we have lost control. our subjectivity is no longer our own. we are darwinian christians. we are jungian scientists. our identity resides in a server. anti-ergonomics permeates our civil society. we design spaces to prevent use. obsolescence looms as a precondition of our culture, our production our end. www.myspace.com/bloodyends Bring your own food and drinks Hot drinks and vegan food will be available @THESHED on donations @ the BAR VERT. Advice to guests: THESHED is a vegetarian/vegan space, I try also to discourage the use of politically incorrect brands, so please respect this in your choice of snacks and drinks to bring along (Mens Sana in Corpore Sano). NEXT EVENTS: http://www.myspace.com/mcbett www.mcbett.net 17th OCTOBER 2009 @THESHED - SOLUS & GUESTS (as part of SOLUS's IRISH/ARABIAN 'AVANT-GARDE' Film Tour 09) 24th/25th OCTOBER @THESHED - REDLINE FEST TBC (as part of RED LINE FEST) 30th OCTOBER 2009 @THESHED – REPTILE CABARET
