Edit is going well. I'm about half way through. Just doing one sequence at a time, I'll join them up when I'm done and start work on the full cut, making everything flow.
So far I'm really happy with everything. Shots look great thanks to JJ Rolfe. We used a Sony Z1 with a 35mm lens adaptor, gave a really nice quality to the images.
Great sound too thanks to Sue Downey who was our recordist. She jacked straight into the camera with a mixer which was really handy for me. So we didn't use a clapper board as there was no need for sync, and as I'm editing I didn't think it nessesary to label every scene. I knew what we were getting.
We shot 3-1 so there's not an enormous amount to go through.
It's fun though, picking the best from each taking and moulding a scene. I do enjoy editing - it's made easier when you have strong performances to work with.
I'm still not sure what the finished film will be. Films have a personality, so I guess this one is still gestating, it has yet to form it's own. The analogy of giving birth has been much used over the years! I guess because it's true. I feel like I only have so much control over it, I can only sew the seed, the rest is in the lap of the movie gods!
