How does one build a network of documentary filmmakers in the Dublin region?
Well the answer to the question is, 'one doesn't'.
Many hands make light work.
I know there is a huge potential for a doco filmmakers network in Dublin for a few simple reasons - there are alot of storytellers out there, there are alot of storied to be told, and there are alot of people who are interested in hearing them.
I'd like this club to see its role as documenting Dublin of today. There is so much going on out there that needs to be recorded and critiqued. You wont find it on the news. But when you think about it, that is exactly what is ACTUALLY going on in the city. It just hasnt been properly represented - until now.
I've got three potential projects on the go - short docs on three hugely interesting 'scenes' in the city - comedy, DJ's and cabaret.
I've already begun work on the Cabaret doc - profiling the lovely Rose Lawless. We have no idea what the doc will be in the end but we know the subject matter warrants a good short at least. Rose would be a perfect guide into the wonderful world of cabaret in Dublin. You can check out here site here.
The basic point of the group is to organise a number of fiilmmakers, keep them in contact and working on ideas and productions, and once there is a body of work ready, we can organise our own little screenings and festivals, or work on getting them into the official festivals.
So if you feel you have something to say - join up.
Ill keep ye posted on our progress through this blog.
