Abbeyfest Documentary Film Competition

About the Competition

This unique event is designed to promote both the work of our up and coming documentary filmmakers, and the town of Abbeyleix.

If you are a filmmaker looking to turn a project around in record time, to have that project seen by an esteemed panel of adjudicators and to have your film screened as part of one of Ireland’s most exciting new festivals, then this is the competition for you.

5 teams will be given the challenge of shooting a documentary on the people and history of Abbeyleix.

The competition is open to all Crewger members, and prizes will be awarded in the following categories:

BEST FILM

AUDIENCE AWARD

BEST USE OF SOCIAL NETWORKING TOOLS

The awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, June 12th at a special screening event in the town of Abbeyleix. Each entry will be screened on the night and awards will be handed out.

The Films:

The Crewger team will select a number of interesting subjects from the annals of Abbeyleix history that we feel are worthy of a one-off documentary.

Subjects will then be picked out of a hat by the chosen teams. Leads and sources for research will be provided for each project..

Filmmakers are encouraged to tell the human side of these stories, to use the town and the people of the locality as much as possible in weaving their tale.

We are not interested in films that merely ‘show us’ the story. We encourage filmmakers to uncover and explore the real-life stories and experiences behind the subjects that they have been provided with.

We are looking for new research, insights, revelations and challenges to conventional wisdom.
